Liberato has always been a keen sportsman, growing up in Italy he spent most of his free time on a football pitch but was also a college gymnast and in the volleyball team. After moving back to England in 1988 Liberato Nizzardi took up Shotokan Karate in 1991 when he was 21, joining Kojo Karate Kai in Luton which is part of the Bukonkai family. Under the tuition and guidance of Sensei Julius George, Liberato made rapid progress through the grades embracing all that Karate had to offer. He became a familiar figure in competitions taking part in both Bukonkai events as well as open tournaments and whilst he clearly favoured the physical aspect of martial arts Sensei Julius kept his kata in check and in the summer of 1996 he was awarded his Shodan by the late Sensei Colin Williams 7th Dan.
Work commitments took Liberato all around the country for several years and during this time he trained with other associations and other styles of martial arts including Wado-ryu, Kyokushinkai and Kick boxing.
In 2003 he became a regular face at Kojo once again and whilst still training there in 2005 he set up Northill Karate Club, in 2006 he was awarded Nidan by Sensei Lee Williams and now runs a young up and coming club in the village of Northill where he lives. Initially run as a children’s club Liberato now teaches both adults & children over two separate sessions every Thursday. His club has a friendly atmosphere & new students are always welcome.
