Sensei Steve Creasy

Sensei Steve grew up in Dunstable and currently lives in Harpenden. He started karate in 1987 and attained his black belt as a teenager. He has been with Bukonkai from white belt to the present day. His training and examinations up to 3rd Dan were under the founder of Bukonkai Karate International, the late Shihan Colin Williams 7th Dan. He obtained his 4th Dan in 2008 and was awarded his 5th Dan in 2018 by the current Chief Instructor, Sensei Lee Williams.

Sensei Steve has only studied and trained in one martial art, Shotokan Karate. He has always shown a keen interest in competitions. He has competed or refereed in the BKI National Championships every year and has often taken first place in the Senior Black Belt Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring) in the BKI championships. He has also represented Bukonkai as part of the BKI British squad including competing overseas, including captaining the winning team Team Kumite in the first ever Malta Open in 2004. He qualified as a Karate Judge and then became the first qualified Karate Referee in Bukonkai’s south region. He has also been awarded the Samurai Helmet award and from the BKI Chief Instructor, Sensei Lee Williams.

Sensei Steve has helped over 25 children and adults reach their black belt, with several then obtaining their 2nd Dan and 3rd Dan. He has had students who have continued to train under him for over 20 years.

Steve was the senior instructor of Bukonkai’s Dunstable karate club for 25 years, before passing the club over to Sensei Alejandro Ronda-Garciga in 2018, whom he had taught for 6 years and helped him quickly pass through the grades up to 2nd Dan.

Sensei Steve will soon be opening a new Bukonkai Karate club closer to home in the St. Albans/Harpenden area.
